I've stayed at City Central Hostel twice, for 20 days altogether, and both visits were fantastic. I met lots of lovely people and made great friends. It's a social, welcoming place if you want to connect with other travelers, and the staff helped make it feel like home. The manager and reception team were friendly and went out of their way to help, from sharing local tips to sorting out little requests around the hostel. The location is hard to beat. Mahatma Gandhi Road metro station is a short walk away, and places like the Indian Museum, Victoria Memorial, and New Market are reachable in about 30 minutes on foot or with a quick metro ride. There are street food stalls and restaurants close by too. Inside, everything felt clean and well kept, the beds were more comfortable than I expected, and breakfast each morning was simple but satisfying. There's also a small shared kitchen for light meals and snacks. I especially liked hanging out on the rooftop for the city views and a chat. It's one of the best hostels I've stayed at in Kolkata, and great value. I'll definitely come back.

City Central Hostel felt welcoming from the moment I arrived, and the facilities were clean and well maintained. Aman Bhai made a real difference to my stay. He was warm, always willing to help, and went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable. He shared local tips, had a laugh with me, and made me feel at home. I highly recommend the hostel and hope to return. Thanks, Aman Bhai!

The dorms were impressively clean, with privacy curtains and individual power outlets at the bunks, which I really appreciated. My whole pack fit in the spacious locker, and that gave me peace of mind. The social atmosphere is great, and the central location and fast Wi-Fi made getting around easy. I'd recommend it to solo travelers.

I spent four nights at this Kolkata hostel with three friends. It was clean and peaceful, and felt like a second home. Sourav Adak was especially kind and helpful. He's patient and fun, and looked after us like a friend. Even when people insist, he never accepts tips from guests in the rooms. You can tell he does the job from the heart, not for money. The older security uncle touched us too. When we arrived at night as strangers in a new city, he came along to help us out, and we'll remember that. Just last night we saw him sleeping on the floor near the gate without any mosquito protection. He told us that people come and go at all hours, so he stays there to be ready instead of sleeping in a room. It really showed how seriously and sincerely he takes his job, even at his age.

For a tight budget, City Central Hostel is an okay option, though I'd look elsewhere if you have a choice. The location is just okay, but you can walk there from Sealdah Railway Station and Metro Station. The hostel doesn't really impress, and cleanliness and hygiene are a concern. The rooms themselves are clean, but the smell of sweaty clothes and some guests not flushing after using the toilet made the stay difficult. It's mostly men staying here. The place is secure, with CCTV and a password locked door, but women on their own might feel awkward among the men. In a group, though, there's nothing to worry about. Saltlake has better hostels, in my opinion.
