Joyguru Guest House by OYO Rooms

I booked through OYO during my first trip to Kolkata to meet a friend, but the owner said he didn’t accept OYO bookings. I was left stranded until he offered to let me stay if I paid cash. I ended up paying much less that way, and OYO refunded my booking. The room was clean and hygienic, and he was fine with couples staying as long as they showed a genuine ID. He cooks himself and can provide whatever meals you want, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food was very tasty. He’s a really nice, friendly person who cleans the rooms himself. He helped me settle into a big city I barely knew, and I’m truly grateful. I’d come from Chhattisgarh and didn’t even know Bangla, so I was apprehensive at first. Meeting my friend didn’t go as I’d hoped and wasn’t as fruitful or entertaining, but I’ll remember the owner’s kindness and how eagerly he helped me on my first solo trip. I rate this 100 out of 10.

I stayed for about four days while my father was admitted to Apollo Multi-speciality Hospital, around 10-15 minutes from the guest house. Ola or Uber cost 100-150 for that trip. The place felt homely, with no restrictions like that, and the stay was hassle-free and nice. They don’t accept OYO bookings, so go in person and book directly if a room is available. The person working there cooks himself. I loved the rice and dal one day, it was hygienic and tasted good. Try his tea too, it’s much better than what you’ll find at nearby hotels. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and hygienic. The ACs worked fine, but there’s no remote, so once switched on, they stay at a constant temperature. I got around that using my Redmi phone. One big thing to know: the rooms don’t have locks, so bring one if you’ll want to secure your room when going out. Wifi worked well, and there’s a geyser.

The location is good, and the in-house food is very good quality. The rooms could have been cleaner, though, especially with the covid situation in mind.

I found the location a bit confusing, but the stay itself was very comfortable. The food was delicious, which is the main reason I’m giving five stars. The geyser, AC, and TV all worked fine.
