The location is premium, with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance. The property was clean, our stay was good, and the housekeeping staff were very nice and around most of the day, which was convenient. Our first room was much smaller than the one we booked and had a completely different layout from the pictures. When we complained, staff said it was just the camera angle, but we weren’t convinced and kept pushing. Eventually a hotel manager sorted it out and gave us a room that matched what we’d originally booked. Be careful at check-in and make sure the room you get is the one you booked, or at least up to that standard.
Breakfast at Pepperchino genuinely puts you in a better mood for the day. Bharati ji and the Pepperchino team at Hotel Samilton make the service feel warm and personal every time. The food is consistently great, from breakfast to the rest of the menu. It’s light, not too oily, and easy on the stomach, with ingredients that seem carefully chosen. I think it works especially well for people who want balanced, health-conscious meals. The taste is well worth the price, and nothing feels heavy or overdone. If you like food that’s tasty and thoughtfully prepared, Pepperchino is a must-visit.
I’ve stayed at The Samilton Hotel, Kolkata twice now, and this visit was at least as impressive as the first. The dining options are a real plus, with fresh, delicious food and plenty of variety. The rooms are neat, clean and well maintained, and the amenities made the stay smooth and relaxing. Staff were warm, helpful and attentive throughout. The Samilton Hotel continues to offer great hospitality, and I look forward to coming back.
I probably won’t get into all the negative points. The only people I liked were the well-mannered older man at reception and the rude doorman, who at least seemed to do his job conscientiously. The few positives don’t make up for the rest. I don’t think this hotel is worth $50 a night.
I spent a week here in February 2025 with my elderly mother. I’m fussy about hotels, but for a three star place I’d give it five stars. The photos don’t do it justice, and my experience was much better than they suggest. The rooms are practical, clean and tidy, bathrooms included. Some are larger than others and the decor varies. The beds and linen were excellent. I also thought the restaurant food was excellent for a three star hotel, and they’ll tailor it to your request. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way for us. Rimpy at customer services deserves a mention for greeting guests each morning and checking whether their needs are being met. The hotel is right in central Kolkata, with restaurants, cafes, shopping malls and transport easily within reach on foot. I’d definitely stay again.
