Budgies Cottage

We were greeted warmly at Budgies cottage with pineapple juice, then had a tasty, typical South Indian lunch. The staff were supportive and service was prompt. The rooms were spacious, with basic amenities and clean bathrooms, though the towels were torn in several places. During our three-day birding trip at thattekad, the menu repeated for two days, which needs improvement and cost a star in my view. On our last morning, they didn’t even have milk for tea.

The sloping grounds give the cottages a nice atmosphere, and there’s plenty of parking. It’s right by the highway, so any kind of vehicle can get there easily, and the resort is near Thattekad Bird Sanctuary. We were a group and had a very enjoyable one-night stay. The stay included breakfast and dinner, and the food was really good. There’s plenty to keep families and kids entertained, including horse riding, indoor games, pool activities, and play areas where parents can relax nearby.

We had frequent power cuts and were given a mud house instead of the one we booked. It looked completely different from the photos. There were cobwebs on the hangers and ceiling, dust on the mosquito net, and the door was in such poor condition that even closing it was difficult. The Wi-Fi was there in name only, with no audio or video entertainment options. A very bad experience. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The staff were efficient, responsive, and provided great service. The rooms were decent, if a bit dated, and could use renovation if rates are going to increase. A nearby Bird Sanctuary and Mini Switzerland are attractions. The resort feels close to nature, with greenery along the road leading to it. There’s also a small animal habitat with rabbits, swans, ducks, and different birds, which is a lovely touch.
