Capital O 1684 Hotel Malabar Inn

The breakfast was good and the staff were okay, but the hotel had a smoky smell throughout, and the door didn’t feel very secure. Cleanliness needs attention: there were bed mites, and they kept us awake at night. I stayed for about three weeks in November 2017, then came back in September 2019. It had been good a year earlier, but recently it wasn’t up to the mark. There’s a lot to improve.

We paid Rs.1350 through OYO for a room listed for three, then added Rs.500 at check-in because there were four of us. The room seemed meant for two. After I asked, they brought an extra bed, then another when I explained our number, leaving four beds crammed into a small space. The furniture, A/C, and general cleanliness were good, but the extra bed had bedbugs and disturbed my sleep. The toilet flush also didn’t work properly. There was a smoky smell in the lift and our corridor, though the ambience was otherwise good. Tea was another hassle: we ordered two cups at about 5.50 in the evening and were told it would only be available after 6. We called again at 6.30, asking for one without sugar and one with it, but the order arrived around 6.50 with sugar in both. Breakfast was complimentary, but had few options and no sugar-free tea. There’s a lot of room for improvement.

The place felt friendly, with no disturbances, clean toilets and bedsheets, and especially nice dining and lawn areas. Service and food were good, prices reasonable, and there were no hidden or extra charges, so it felt worth the money. One restriction to know about: they don't allow unmarried couples or people with local ID proofs.

There's an in-house restaurant, and online bookings come with complimentary buffet breakfast from 8:30 onwards. The hotel is just off the main road and has parking. Rooms are spacious enough for three, the bathrooms were clean and had utilities, and the reception and housekeeping staff were very helpful.
