Kovilakam Residency Private Limited

The food and service at Kovilakam Residency were a real letdown. We ordered Chicken Kondattam, but it had no proper masala or salt and the chicken itself had no taste. They wouldn’t serve a quarter portion, saying only a full one was available. Then the bill didn’t match the menu price, and staff explained that the menu was old and hadn’t been updated. That feels misleading. We’d come with family for dinner yesterday. Security directed us to park, but once we’d parked and gone inside, a staff member told us the restaurant was closed. That was already irritating. Later, they said food would take 20 minutes, so we waited. For a so-called 3-star hotel, this was disappointing service and food. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The rooms were neat, and the evening staff were great. They told me at check-in that the complimentary breakfast buffet had been removed because of an LPG shortage, which I understood. I needed breakfast early before checkout, so I asked the restaurant if they could arrange something before its usual 7:30 start. The manager checked with the chef, and they agreed to serve us at 6:45. In the morning, though, the shower wasn’t working properly, and nobody answered when I called reception. I also hadn’t been given a dental kit, and again nobody picked up. I went to the desk around 6 AM and found the morning staff member asleep, which was fine at that hour. But when I said I’d called, he claimed they hadn’t received any calls. At 7 AM the restaurant said they couldn’t make anything because the gas was over, and I’d have to wait until 8. The evening team hadn’t passed along what they’d arranged. Nobody apologized for the service. I have no complaint about the evening staff, though the restaurant could have communicated better.

We’ll stay here again because it felt like the best option in the area. The buffet breakfast was good, though lunch and dinner seemed short on choices. Rooms and amenities were fine, and the property is kept up well. There was no tea or coffee in the room, but bath soap and shower gel were supplied, and they brought a dental kit when I asked. They may offer 3-star facilities, but charge 5-star prices 😆. One odd detail, the hot water markings were reversed.

We had lunch as a family, but there was only one waiter, and perhaps he was under too much pressure to look after us properly. Nobody checked whether we wanted more dishes or more quantity, asked what kind of thali we wanted, or mentioned special items such as fish fry. There was no fish curry with the meals either. The bill felt high for what we got. Sorry for the negative feedback, I’m sharing it in the hope it helps you improve. MOHANKUMAR KM
