Be ready to pay cash, since that's all they accept. The food was great, though a bit spicy, and service could have been better. It seemed they might have been short-staffed during our visit.

The restaurant is on-site, but I wouldn't especially recommend it, as there are better places to eat nearby. The stay itself was good value, particularly for visits to temples in and around Kumbakonam. At Thangavilas Hotel, our room was spacious and clean, with the basic amenities for an easy stay. There's plenty of car parking, handy if you're driving, and the friendly, helpful staff made check-in and service pleasant.

I booked through gobibo. The manager said online bookings had a strict 12-12 check-in time and no breakfast, while direct bookings by phone got a 24-hour stay from check-in and breakfast. Calling directly costs more, though. The rooms weren't very clean, the bathroom was poorly maintained, and the shower didn't work. I paid more for 2 adults and 2 kids but wasn't given an extra bed. They wanted another 650rs for one. It felt like management cared about money over customer satisfaction. I'm unhappy and wouldn't book again.

The room was comfortable, and the environment felt safe for a family. Hospitality was good even late at night. The only issue was a rusty water kettle that I couldn't use for morning coffee. A decent stay.
