The room was spacious, but we really didn’t like the hospitality. The bedsheet had a huge hole, and the dal served at dinner was stale. When we complained, they argued and refused to admit it. The tap head in the bathroom was loose, and the towel hanger was broken.

We got this hotel through a pre-planned travel agency package, and the room and amenities weren’t worth what we paid for the “Super Deluxe Room.” In Munnar and Eranakulam we’d stayed in much better places for less. The largest kathakali sculpture claim is a scam, since it’s actually a “big” mural, not a large sculpture. The lights kept going out, and they didn’t start the generator until we complained. Don’t trust an agency blindly, check what you’ll actually get for the price.

It’s very easy to get around from this hotel. The Kerala and Tamilnadu bus stations are both 200 metres away, so there’s no need to hire an auto or taxi. The main Spice market and good eateries are just 50 metres away, and most tourist spots are within walking distance. For accessibility, I’d give it 100 marks. Nice place to stay, right in the heart of town.

We arrived in Kumily around 1 am after riding from Chennai and booked for a night through Agoda. The staff were alert and there to receive us despite the late hour. Checkout is at 11, but we left earlier to continue our trip. They suggested a few places to see in the short two hours we had that morning. The room had a TV and geyser, and I saw room service start immediately after we checked out, so five stars for cleanliness. Eno car parking is also available for guests.
