Karar Garden

The location is good, but the hotel feels short on basic facilities. Despite “Garden” being in the name, there isn’t a garden on the property. Our room was smaller than the photos suggested, and although we booked a king-size bed, we got a queen-size one. Breakfast was only so-so, with two or three choices like bread and pudi. The restaurant food was good, though the menu was quite limited. Overall, an average hotel.

Mr. Syed knew a lot about places around Kerela and nearby, and he helped us book a Gavi safari and trekking during a busy weekend. We also had a great time visiting the ancient Kalari and Kathakali programs. The property’s service and location were both great.

The only thing I liked was the balcony, but we couldn’t leave it open because insects came in. The room’s furnishing was old and poor quality, and breakfast was plain, cold, and had no variety. The sheets were stained and dirty. We asked for replacements, but those were dirty too. The washroom had a stuffy smell. They said there was an exhaust fan, but it was tiny, and with the back area closed off, it didn’t bring in fresh air. There was no hot water at the washbasin.

The rooms have balconies and garden views, and reviewers mention that they’re clean. The restaurant serves tasty, affordable food, including dosas and Kerala dishes. There’s no elevator and breakfast choices are limited, but people still rate the place highly, especially as a budget stay. It’s in a central but quiet part of Thekkady, handy for the main bypass, boating points, shops, and cultural attractions. Several reviewers call it walkable and well located. Staff are often described as polite, available around the clock, and helpful with personal attention. Syed and Younus are mentioned for arranging transport and helping make stays run smoothly.
