We booked rooms and a dinner buffet through a travel agency, but the hotel refused to give us a room with an attached bathroom. For safety and convenience, we had to book somewhere else. Checkout was set for the next morning, so we kept the room keys with us. When we went to the buffet dinner, staff aggressively demanded the keys. We explained the situation, but the waiters became rude and abusive and started fighting with us. Then the owner, his wife, and another woman came over and tried to physically attack us. They spoke terribly to the girls, and one of them grabbed a girl's bag strap. We were threatened with words like “you cannot go back, we will kill you.” This was terrifying. Locals ganging up over a small issue and turning it violent makes the place feel extremely unsafe, especially for travelers from other states who are alone and vulnerable. I strongly advise everyone to avoid Hotel New Himalayan Cottage, Manali.
