Gingerhill Nest

Conversation with Mr. Thomas was a real pleasure. He spoke about local agriculture, history, and economics in a way that felt like listening to a professor. Mrs. Laly cooked gourmet meals using ingredients from their garden. The rooms at Gingerhill nest were clean, and the house itself is beautiful. Our balcony looked over the valley, and the mornings were lovely with birds to listen to. My wife and I came from the US, and I’d highly recommend this homestay to anyone visiting the area.

Mr. Thomas can help arrange a jungle safari at the edge of Silent Valley. The thick, evergreen, untouched forest is a treat for nature lovers, even though you may not spot many wild animals there. The place is far from busy traffic, surrounded by greenery and mountains; in rainy season you can see the back waters of a small dam nearby, and mostly hear birds and wind. Thomas and Laly are a wonderful couple who take great care with even the small things to make guests comfortable. The property is very clean and beautiful, and the charges are nominal with no surprises at checkout. If you want a break from busy life, to relax, enjoy nature and Kerala food, this is a lovely place. We had a wonderful stay. Thanks, Thomas and Laly.

The kids loved spending time with uncle and aunty, and they were served the food they liked. We felt right at home, with a clean, well-kept room and delicious food served with love and care. A great place to stay with children, even little ones. Anyone planning a visit to pallakad/malampuzha should come stay here.

The plantation setting is beautiful, on a hill above a reservoir, with gardens of flowers and spices. Thomas and Laly made us feel at home as soon as we arrived, and the rooms were clean and had the basic amenities. Laly is an incredible cook, making authentic Kerala dishes over a wood fire and in earthen pots. We ate until we could barely stand! Even with some language barriers, we shared recipes and laughs, and they were lovely to our driver, too. K T Thomas showed us around the plantation and explained the spices; he’s a wonderful host and so knowledgeable that meals became really interesting conversations. He also arranged a visit to a Coconut Oil factory. Don’t forget to try fresh TODDY while you’re there. If you want to experience Kerala culture, its people and cuisine, Gingerhill Nest is the place. Thank you, Laly and Thomas, for making our Kerala trip memorable. We’ll be back and recommend this beautiful place to everyone. Set aside at least TWO days to enjoy the scenery and Laly’s food. :)
