Serkong House

We stayed in room number 202, with a fantastic view of the valley and mountains. The authentic Tibetan-style room was beautiful and cozy, and the hotel is well located for McLeod Ganj. Passang La and the team were kind and attentive, making sure we had what we needed and making the stay feel special and familiar. We’ll come back, and highly recommend it!

We had a good time overall during our 3 nights and 4 days. The rooms were big and neat, the balcony was nice, the staff polite, and the owner took an interest in our questions and was helpful. We booked 1 suite and 2 double rooms, all facing the valley. The house is just 30 metres from the main market, which is its main selling point. The road leading there is the biggest concern, and I’m not sure it can be improved since it’s outside their control.

Please avoid booking here. The rooms were dirty, there was no shower in the bathroom, and they didn’t provide proper bedsheets. Both women at reception were very rude. This hotel doesn’t deserve even 1 star.

The boiler took almost 12 hours to heat the water, so we gave up on having a shower. The TV didn’t work, and when I asked, the response was simply that it didn’t work. They hadn’t mentioned it at check-in. There was no WiFi either. When I asked about it, they brushed it off by saying the rooms were full and everyone was using the internet. For the amount I paid, they should have had proper routers on each floor for a stable connection. There wasn’t even a dressing mirror, just a full-length one, which felt like a basic thing to expect at such an exorbitant price. The facilities and amenities didn’t match what the property boasted. I couldn’t wait to check out the next day, and wouldn’t recommend this so-called three-star hotel to anyone visiting Macleodganj. Maybe foreigners are treated differently, since they rave about the place, but that’s how it felt to me as a local. I’d give it zero stars if the system let me, and only put one because it wouldn’t let me post otherwise.
