Sourenee Tea Estate & Boutique Resort

The food was good, and the dining area beside the tea garden has a lovely setting. But its transparent corrugated roof dripped in several places when it rained, so we had to eat in our room. Breakfast is supposed to start at 7:30, but that seemed to be only on paper. The rooms are huge, yet cleanliness is a serious issue, with dust and spider webs everywhere. One window was broken and opened onto a shared balcony with no grills, which felt like a security and privacy threat. We called several times, then after hours were told no mechanic was available. The location is beautiful, but this hotel wasn’t worth it.

We stopped for lunch while coming down from Darjeeling. The food was really tasty and high quality, and the location is stunning. The main menu only had vegetarian dishes, so you have to ask for non-veg. A great place for an escape.

The dining hall is beautiful and could be the property’s standout, but it’s badly neglected. Rain comes through several cracks, and spiders hang from the decorations on the roof and can suddenly dangle over your head. Please keep it clean! The advertised 7:30 buffet breakfast wasn’t showing up by 8, and we had to search for staff. The whole property, including the front desk, was deserted until 8am. There’s construction going on and parking is a mess. Staffing seems to be a problem, or perhaps management is changing, and the staff were very complacent. Sourenee has lots of potential, but right now it’s in a danger zone. With the name, tariff, and pictures online, you expect more. At around 8k a night, a room shouldn’t have broken window hinges. When we reported them, we got a show of surprise and a false promise to send a repair person. Nobody came. When we reminded them at night, they cleverly offered to change our room. Really, after we’d unpacked and settled in for the night?

The staff looked after us really well, and our room was very comfortable. It’s a beautiful spot in the greenery of the tea country, with a relaxing atmosphere.
