Hotel Causeway

Inside, Hotel Causeway was clean and practical, and the daily housekeeping kept our room fresh and comfortable. The outside looked a bit rough, though, and didn’t make the best first impression. Staff were helpful and attentive. This is a simple, no-frills hotel, not a luxury stay, but it’s clean, efficient, well located and good value. We’d planned to move rooms the next morning, but weren’t asked to, so we stayed in the larger room for the rest of the visit. We’d arrived around 6am after a change in our sleep schedule and had told the hotel in advance through Booking.com. They said they’d try to accommodate us if a room was free, and luckily one was available, so they let us check in straight away. We really appreciated that after a long night. Finding a hotel at this price with such a good location feels like a matter of luck. If you want to explore Mumbai properly, you need to walk around South Mumbai, and there are some great budget hotels there.

I had no complaints about the clean room, AC, good shower, fridge, or clean walls and floors for the price. The big drawback is the size: the rooms are ridiculously small, and two people can’t really live comfortably in that little space. Our room wasn’t serviced at all, so I assume you have to request it. It’s a budget hotel virtually next door to Cafe Leopold, and very well placed in Colaba. We stayed four nights and used it as a base for exploring Mumbai. The staff were very friendly and the managers professional. It’s opposite a bus stand, where virtually every bus goes to CSMT or Churchgate stations for 12 INR. A yellow black cab costs 100 INR. I exchanged money at reception and got a good rate. They take cash only. We checked in and paid on the second day. For no-frills budget accommodation in this location, I recommend it. Just keep in mind it’s not 5 star.

The location is fantastic and the stay was great value. The staff were very helpful, especially the bellboys Ahmed and Arman.
