Hotel Maharana Inn Chembur

For the price, the room staff and overall service were decent during my two days at Hotel Maharana, Chembur. But one incident changed my view, and it's why I wouldn't stay here again. I was in the lounge near the basement entrance, sitting on one of the sofas provided for guests and talking on the phone in proper shorts. The watchman told me I couldn't sit there wearing shorts. It was a normal common seating area and almost always vacant, so the rule felt shocking and unreasonable. Another time, while I sat in the same spot drinking a Red Bull, that same watchman said I couldn't leave my drink on the table beside the sofa. He gave no logical reason either. When I asked about the rules, I was told, “The bosses don’t like it.” I work in hospitality with reputed properties abroad and have never run into such arbitrary, unprofessional restrictions in public guest areas. If management's personal preferences are behind this, the rules should be communicated clearly. Better yet, private preferences belong in private spaces, not in a hotel welcoming paying guests. Shorts, a phone call, and a non-alcoholic drink in a public area are completely normal in hospitality worldwide. Management should revisit these rules and train staff to be more polite, professional, and guest-oriented. Hospitality should mean comfort and respect, not unnecessary control.

It was a relaxing, pleasant stay, and I'd definitely recommend the hotel. The location was convenient and easy to reach. Our room was comfortable, clean, well maintained, and had all the amenities I needed. Staff were polite and helpful, always ready to assist with a smile, and check-in and check-out were smooth and hassle-free.

I've been using this hotel on my Mumbai visits because it's conveniently located, reasonably priced, and has good service. The rooms are well maintained, and there's a vegetarian restaurant attached on the ground floor. Just keep in mind that road-facing rooms can be noisy.

The location is the main attraction, and I hope to stay here again on my next visit. The room is small, but it has all the essentials. Daily cleaning is the best part, and the staff are very helpful and cordial.
