Shamrock

The hotel's unusual layout is fascinating: it sits on a small hill above town, and you enter on the top floor before taking stairs down to the rooms. From the balcony there's a great view over town. The rooms were clean and well maintained, the service was excellent, and I especially liked the omelettes at breakfast and the ginger chicken.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel. I booked through Agoda on 8th May for 27th - 29th may, then called reception to confirm. A woman there said the booking was confirmed. When I arrived around 10am on 27th may, the receptionist couldn't find a booking under my name or an email from Agoda saying I'd booked the resort. Unfortunately, all the rooms were taken. I don't know how the hotel communicates with Agoda, but its own internal communication seems poor too. To Shamrock, learn how to treat a guest.

We stayed in Room 302 at Shamrock on April 14, and Mr Sabu and the team gave us a homely welcome that put us at ease right away. The room was spacious and lovely, with a balcony over a gorgeous view where we could see both sunrise and sunset. The lawn below had a great atmosphere, and we enjoyed hot soup there. Dinner was also a highlight. The restaurant manager from Malappuram, whose name I unfortunately can't recall, paid attention to even small details. When we ordered omelettes, he brought each one up separately as soon as it was cooked, making several trips up the stairs so we could eat them hot. The staff took care of everything from check-in to check-out, and we didn't need to ask for anything more. A truly wonderful experience.

The pepper chicken was the standout, a 10/10 recommendation. Our west-facing balcony also gave us amazing sunset views. The hotel is a little old, which adds to its charm, though the rooms could use some renovation. We stayed for two days, a couple of miles from Munnar town. It's quiet and secluded, but picturesque. Overall, a pretty chill stay.
