Rio Meridian Hotel

The staff were humble, polite, and very good, and the security guard was well mannered. Parking was plentiful. We stayed three days, and the hotel is conveniently close to Mysore Palace and other attractions. The old building had neat, spacious rooms with two sofas, a center table, plenty of cupboard space, and a mini refrigerator. Breakfast was a rooftop buffet with plenty of choices: Idly Sambhar, Medu wada, Poori aloo, Upma, Poha, Ghee Rice, pineapple kesari bath (Halwa), bread with jam and butter, boiled eggs, Corn flakes, juice, tea, coffee, and fruit. We could also ask for an omelette or Masala Dosa as part of the complimentary breakfast. Cleanliness needs more attention. Housekeeping should dust the rooms, and the toilet could be much cleaner and look more hygienic. Complaints and water service were very slow, and we had to remind them two or three times. I’d give the hotel four stars.

The location is the only reason I gave this place one star. From outside, the hotel, reception, and common areas look good, so I ignored the Google rating and booked. But the moment I got into the lift, it was clear this was an old building that hadn’t been renovated or maintained since opening. The rooms we got were old, unhygienic, dusty, and had mosquitoes and spider webs. They also weren’t properly set up. I had to call several times and go to reception just to get basics like a washroom mat, towels, and a jug. I’m not sure anyone checks that a room is ready before assigning it. If you only care about location while exploring Mysore, you may be okay here. If you want to rest and recharge, expect repeated trips to reception and compromised sleep.

Breakfast was very good and included plenty of options like idly, vada, poori, upma or doha, bread and butter, corn flakes, and different juices. I’d opt for the free breakfast when booking. Service still needs work. The toilet was only okay and needed better cleanliness and hygiene. After I complained, it took a while to get it addressed. I’d give the stay four stars, though expectations should be kept low since it may feel more like a three-star hotel than a real four-star experience.

We left early, around 9 AM the day after checking in on 30/01/2026, and accidentally left a Samsung original mobile charger behind. I explained exactly where it was, but the hotel denied finding it without properly checking with housekeeping. The charger was worth ₹3,500. The Hindi-speaking receptionist and manager Revanna were rude and arrogant, and seemed uninterested in looking into it. They relied on staff statements without checking the facts and accused us of making a false allegation. The manager said they were least bothered by negative reviews and mocked customers, saying threatening reviews was all they could do. There was no courtesy, accountability, or professionalism. If they won’t make a basic effort to trace a missing charger, I wonder what would happen if something valuable like jewellery went missing. A shockingly poor response to guest concerns. Absolutely not recommended.
