The Solitude Camp

Evenings beside the bonfire beneath the stars were a lovely touch at The Solitude Camp. It’s a peaceful riverside place with the Dhauladhar mountains around it, cozy cottages and dome tents, and warm hospitality. You can hear the stream and enjoy the views, and the home-cooked food was delicious. A calm, refreshing spot for anyone who loves nature.

The tents had broken zippers and dirty curtains, and the food was just okay. The staff were nice until they asked for a generous tip. After that, they dropped their manners and used foul language. I reported it, but management took their side, and I’m sure they’ll respond negatively to this review too. The setting also wasn’t like the photos. The camp is directly across from a hydroelectric power station, whose noise carried through the night and drowned out the river. The access road is very narrow. There’s no parking, so you have to leave your car near the station across the river and walk to camp, which left me worrying about the car the whole time. Not worth a visit.

The staff loaded our luggage outside the government restricted area, then asked for extra money to carry it. Even after we paid, they weren’t satisfied and started being rude and swearing in front of our kid. I wouldn’t recommend this place. The camp is a long way inside, and cars can’t enter because the area belongs to a government thermal power station. Its noise goes on all day, so you can’t enjoy the water or the quiet. The bonfire lasted hardly an hour because they didn’t have enough wood.

We had such a good time. The place is picturesque, the service is great, and the staff are humble and dedicated. If you want time in nature, it’s well worth visiting, and the charges are quite nominal. You do have to walk for a few minutes, but that shouldn’t be an issue in Himachal.
