The food and rooms were good, the washroom was clean, and the prices were decent. The receptionist was nice, but the rest of the staff came across as blunt. When I tried chatting with one staff member about nearby places, they showed almost no interest. As we were leaving in our car at checkout, a staff member hurried over to ask for the keys in a very rude tone. I don't know why they were so sceptical, but that sort of attitude can lead to an unpleasant argument. I went back to the room myself to help look, and wallah, the key was on the tray. They really need a more polite, welcoming approach and should avoid being unnecessarily sceptical. A more hospitable atmosphere is needed.

Our rooms were dirty when we arrived. There were no towels, the room smelled bad, the washrooms were unclean, and neither the bed nor the bedsheets were clean. We even saw dead cockroaches and ants. The food was poor quality and there were very few options. Before going out the next day, we left our keys with staff and asked them to clean. When we came back that night, nothing had been done, not even the bedsheets or toilets. We had to ask again for at least some cleaning, and even then it wasn't done properly. At dinner, only leftover food was available and they refused when we asked for more. There was a fly in the gulab jamun. I'm very disappointed and can't understand how this hotel is being run with such poor service. If minus stars were possible, I'd give them minus.

The hotel staff were polite and helpful, and quickly brought us the services we needed. We were there with a tour group, and the food was homely and delicious. Hotel Apple Inn, Nainital is set among nature, with a peaceful, refreshing feel. Our room was clean and spacious, with a lovely natural view from the window. It was a memorable stay, and I highly recommend trying it if you're visiting Nainital.
