The Chettinad Heritage

Gokul, the manager, looked after us, and Murugan was especially helpful serving our meals. The staff were polite and kind. We are strict vegetarians, and they took care while preparing our food. For Deepavali, they made a special festival meal that was wonderful: kuzhipaniyaram, sweet paniyaram, pass kozhukkattai, appam, adai, and soft idlis with sambar. We usually drink only filter coffee, and I hadn't realized they'd make it here. They also celebrated Deepavali with crackers and flower pots. We came to The Chettinad heritage home for a relaxing break from Bangalore, combining our Deepavali holiday with an early celebration of our wedding anniversary on 30th October. We arrived on 19th October around 5 p.m. and were welcomed with a drink before going to our first-floor room. The rooms are on the first and second floors, and there is no lift because the property is being maintained as a heritage home. The 18 steps to the first floor are steep. I asked for a room close to the stairs, but that room had no balcony. We coordinated breakfast times and visits to important places so we wouldn't need to keep climbing back up. The home is good for relaxing. They can serve all three meals in the rooms, though we tried dinner there once and didn't want to sit in a small room for every meal. I recommend the place apart from the stairs and having to go down for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We had a wonderful Darshan of karpaga vinayagar at pilliyarpatti and went to madurai to see Meenakshi amba. Because it was Deepavali, many hotels around Karaikudi were closed, so we stayed all three nights here. Prices are high for the town, at 4*hotel levels, and food in Tamilnadu is costly compared with karnataka. Rain was forecast for the holiday, so there weren't many guests, and most were from Kerala, especially for the Chettinad spicy food.

Clean, safe, and it felt like home. The staff, including Gokul and a few others, were friendly and dedicated. It's a must-stay for the Chettinad lifestyle and experience, and a great spot for photos that capture that feel.

This isn't an authentic heritage site. The rooms were newly built for tourists, and the pictures shown are just paint on the walls, not traditional tiles or walls. It's also on the opposite side of the heritage city, not in Kanadukathan. For just an overnight stay, it may be fine, but we were charged 7000 rs per night and didn't feel it was worth that. The dinner choice was only three different South Indian dishes, selected as optional items during pre-booking. There aren't good food places in the area, so I wouldn't choose it for authentic food. Breakfast was OK.

The staff were attentive, friendly, and always willing to help, which made the visit enjoyable. It's also a calm, safe place for families with kids, and being close to the main attractions made sightseeing easy. Chettinad Heritage Resort is a beautifully maintained heritage mansion, with its traditional character preserved alongside modern comforts. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The homely atmosphere made it welcoming for both families and couples. The food was excellent, with authentic Chettinad flavors in every meal. A memorable stay, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting the region.
