Poothali Homestay

The tasty breakfast of authentic local dishes was a highlight, and the helpful staff, especially the smiling ladies, made us feel welcome. Poothali is a peaceful, lovely green spot among farming fields, tucked down quiet lanes though centrally located. It's a nice place to spend quality time with family or friends, and there's a beautiful beach nearby for walks. I was told that lunch and dinner need to be arranged in advance since only breakfast is available. That was a bit inconvenient because there isn't anything nearby, though Swiggy showed some delivery options.

The local seafood and sweet toddy are a real treat in this area. Staying at Poothali was a chance to experience transformative tourism, and Manoj Kumar does a great job of showing what India's rural side has to offer. There are clean, beautiful beaches, traditional culture like Theyam, ancient temples, and delicious regional food.

We got a lot of help from Manoj, who managed things smoothly and responded quickly, from stay-related needs to arranging local experiences. Sangeet was courteous, helpful, and well behaved as he guided us through the area. We enjoyed local food nearby, especially the outstanding Malabar-style biryani, and the backwaters and houseboats are another lovely attraction during a stay here. Puthali Homestay is close to the sea, but not right on the beach, which suited us well. The calm Kerala village feel was lovely, and a beautiful, clean, uncrowded beach was only a 10-minute walk away. The house is well maintained and tastefully decorated, with a calming look that makes it easy to relax and let your thoughts wander. The large terrace is a great place to sit for hours, enjoy the breeze, read, or just reflect. They serve delicious home-cooked Kerala and Kasaragod traditional meals. Sunita Didi's food was amazing, and she was gentle and polite, preparing everything just the way we wanted. The homestay also helped us see Theyyam, a unique local cultural celebration and tradition of Kasaragod. Outsiders can watch, but it's a religious-cultural event for locals, so respect and decorum matter. We had a wonderful stay in Bekal, Kasaragod. Puthali Homestay is a lovely choice for peace, authentic Kerala hospitality, and a soulful stay near the sea. Highly recommended.
