Amber by The Tamarillo

My four nights here were among my best stays. The clean rooms and tasty, freshly prepared food made for a cozy time amid nature. I loved the misty mornings and evenings, and the weather was wonderful during my visit. Amber is peaceful, surrounded by nature, with a great view. It’s away from noisy Ooty city centre but still close to the ooty-coonoor road and lovedale station, so you get some quiet while staying near major areas. Caretaker Sajith was always attentive and ready to help, and manager Ranjith was warm and helpful.

If you’re after a quiet, scenic break in Ooty, this is a wonderful place for a homely stay. The garden’s colorful flowers make it a lovely dining spot, and eating there in the peaceful setting was a real treat. There’s a tea estate right in front, and the natural views are refreshing. We also had a bonfire every night, which brought a lovely warmth to the evenings. The cozy rooms were comfortable, and the staff were caring, friendly, and helpful throughout. Food is made to order, and breakfast is complimentary. We found breakfast very tasty and satisfying. We ordered homemade chocolates after the caretaker suggested them. They were fresh, good quality, and reasonably priced compared with other shops we visited in Ooty. It gets very cold in winter, and heaters aren’t provided in rooms by default. Staff said they can arrange one if you tell them ahead, so let them know early and bring warm clothes. Finding the property can also be confusing since Google Maps sometimes gives wrong routes. Direction boards or clearer guidance would help first-time visitors. I’d recommend it to nature lovers and anyone wanting a peaceful break.

The property was difficult to reach. Google Maps didn’t locate it properly, and on a terrible road it took us nearly 2 hours to cover barely 2 km. The food was pathetic in both taste and quality, the rooms were freezing with no proper heating, and the service was very bad. Staff weren’t helpful, and the bathroom taps leaked badly, causing constant inconvenience. Most online reviews seem fake and misleading compared with what we experienced. It’s not worth the money, and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The campfire area gave the stay a great vibe, and the location was spot on for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. Amber by The Tamarillo was amazing, with truly next-level food and service. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it.
