The restaurant was still full of locals when we arrived at 9:30 PM, and it lived up to the reputation. We tried local dishes like Paal Porotta, Varal roast, and squid roast, along with Kerala and Chinese food. The complimentary breakfast had a generous range of good-quality items too. Sun Star Pala is handy for an overnight stop, especially on the way to Munnar, with the bus stand right across the road. Our Deluxe room was comfortable and well kept, and the staff were warm and professional. There’s also plenty of parking. Tea kettles and shaving kits are currently limited to Executive rooms and Suites. It’d be useful if Deluxe and Budget rooms could offer them too, perhaps for a small extra charge. Still, it’s a dependable place in Pala, and I’d happily return.

Appam with beef curry was really good, authentic and nicely prepared. Service was prompt and courteous, and there’s a well-kept lounge and plenty of parking. The location is hard to beat, directly across from the KSRTC Bus Stand, which is handy for travellers. Prices are on the premium side for town, though. The AC felt a little too strong, but it was manageable. A reliable option in Pala with good food and solid facilities.

The breakfast buffet was simple but tasty, and our rooms were clean with really good service. We were a large group attending a wedding, with several rooms booked for us, and stayed just one night at Sunstar Residency. I’d recommend it to friends or family staying in Pala.

The duck mappas was creamy and delicious. We also had the chicken biriyani, made with kaima rice and served with pickle and raita. The portion was enough for two, and at 260₹ the quality and quantity felt worth it.
