Dona Paula Classic Hotel

The room smelled awful, there was no cleaning or room service, and only the owner seemed to be handling the whole place. Management and maintenance were very poor. There were termites throughout, and the door was damaged so it wouldn’t lock properly. A terrible stay, I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel.

The staff were helpful, the rooms were clean, and all the places we wanted to visit were nearby. We had a really good time.

The common room’s table and chairs and the hotel’s prime location were the only saving graces. Staff were willing to help, though they seemed as helpless as we felt in the cramped space. I think we got the worst room. It was a windowless box, so uncomfortable that I could barely sleep. At check-in, the previous occupants had apparently left a big piece of cake in the cupboard, which had drawn an army of ants. I can’t understand how the room was assigned without anyone checking it, and the bedsheets weren’t clean either. It was a last-minute booking, but they shouldn’t build such a tiny, unventilated room and charge the same as other rooms shown in the pictures with windows and balconies. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t take this room.

The rooms are a bit small, but overall I was satisfied with my stay. It’s an affordable place in a calm, clean, peaceful area, and Dona Paula view point is within walking distance. The dormitories are clean and nice too, with AC and lockers, though you’ll need to bring your own lock. The place is clean and well maintained.
