Golden Sunrise & Spa

Getting luggage from the car was a hassle because parking is very limited. We had two large SUVs and had to carry our bags some distance. The hotel feels lower end, with a dusty look and limited amenities. Its layout is maze-like, and all the rooms are below reception, so there’s a lot of walking to reach them. Cleanliness could use plenty of improvement: the rooms were dirty and the beds smelled. We paid 300 per room per night for heaters. There are no fans or ACs, so be ready for a suffocating stay. The food was okay, though the eating areas should be cleaner. The restaurant lady was helpful, and the guy at the counter is a budding singer.

The place is quite old, and the corridors feel like a maze. It’s easy to lose track of where your room is. We were given a room with broken furniture outside the window, and the bathroom needs better hygiene. The staff and manager weren’t supportive, and the manager was quite rude to customers in our group. The restaurant is two floors down, which is hard for older people. For the high price, this feels like a low-end hotel. I wouldn’t stay here if you want to avoid ruining your holiday.

The advertised spa wasn’t there, and the property is under construction. Our first family room was in very poor shape, with bad lighting and unclean washrooms. They changed it after we asked, but the replacement was only somewhat better: the almirah was covered in fungus, the windows could be opened from outside, and the bedsheets were dirty and hadn’t been changed. The bathroom door wouldn’t shut, and there were gaps. The whole property was messy and unclean, with no proper entrance or exit. A room heater was listed as an amenity, but they said it wasn’t available and charged per night. Breakfast was supposed to run from 7 to 10, but at 9 they said the food was over. We asked for fresh Parathas and waited a long time; they reheated them instead, saying fresh ones would take time. It was already 9, and there were only limited choices. The next day we had to leave early for the airport, but food wasn’t served until after 8. Overall, a very, very bad experience. I’d never recommend it. This hotel was listed on makemytrip, and it was a terrible tie-up, with no onground reality check. When I raised the issue, the response was unexpectedly irresponsible, and mmt ultimately wouldn’t change the hotel. I wouldn’t rely on mmt reviews.

The hotel is in a lovely location, and you get a beautiful Kanchenjunga view from the room. The staff were very polite and provided good service. Special thanks to Srijana rai and Avinagiri for service that was outstanding, exceptional, and memorable. They’re a real asset to Golden sunrise n spa. Best wishes to the whole team.
