KTDC Golden Peak Ponmudi

We had Room P1, with a lovely hill view and a stunning sunrise. The peaceful silence made it a great place to relax. The room and well-kept bathroom were clean, and towels and necessary amenities were provided. Food was decent, and room service did the job. Sleeping was the problem. The mattress was in very poor shape, with springs sticking out, and it was so uncomfortable that I could hardly sleep and had body pain. It needs replacing right away. There also aren’t shops or restaurants nearby, which could be inconvenient.

Golden Peak has a lot going for it in its location and natural setting, and the compound itself feels pleasant and serene. The forest behind the guest house could be a nice feature, but it isn’t maintained now, despite signs that someone worked on it in the past. There are no entertainment or recreation facilities, so guests mostly have the natural surroundings. Food was below expectations, more like a basic way to fill up since there are no other dining options nearby. We booked two cottages, one Hill View and one Garden View, but didn’t notice a significant difference in the views or experience. Garden View costs more mainly because it accommodates three adults. It has a double bed and seating in the entry room, plus a single bed in a small extra room, but only one bathroom, which can be inconvenient for three people. The other cottage is smaller, with only a double bed. Room cleanliness was average. The reception team was courteous and professional. A few basic conveniences were missing: there was no mirror in the room and no plug near the table where the kettle sat. With better upkeep and improved facilities, the property could do much more for tourism at Ponmudi. As it is, the limited amenities, maintenance gaps, and average food reduce its value. We stayed at Golden Peak (KTDC) on a recent Ponmudi staycation; it is currently the only accommodation option in the area.

The building is old, but the rooms have the essentials, including an electric kettle, water heater, and clean toilets. The location gives you beautiful scenery, and the restaurant food was very good. They asked what we liked and made the dishes to suit us, which made them even tastier. Staff were professional and focused on service, going out of their way to keep guests happy.

We booked a cliff-view room, and the view was stunning. The peaceful grounds also have plenty of room to walk and take in the scenery. That was the main reason for my three-star rating, because the room itself was below average, poorly maintained, and not clean enough for its price. The bathroom looked newly renovated and was neat. Dinner and breakfast were average and didn’t match what the location could offer. The restaurant felt dated and needs renovation, as do the rooms and overall facilities. Service also needs work. KTDC has plenty of scope to improve the property, which could reach a proper 4-star or even 5-star standard.
