Chan Beach Resort

This was my fifth visit, and I’d planned to come back often for a peaceful break. We travelled all the way from Bangalore, but our first engagement anniversary turned into a big disappointment. The pool was unclean, mosquitoes in the room were really irritating, and we even had to order food through Zomato. The staff were moody about helping; a few were okay, but not very professional. Service, rooms and hospitality all fell short. We’d had a lovely beachside engagement here on May 19, 2025, in the afternoon and at night, so we returned for our anniversary and were let down in every way. The place has been renovated and the prices are now very high. We were told on the phone to come because a room was available, but were given a basic room at a higher price. I’d planned a vacation here and had even spoken with the owner about visiting often. We also came to ask about another nearby event, but after this experience I can’t recommend the place and won’t be back.

The beach access needs a clear explanation. Though Chan Beach Resort is attached to the beach, it’s a rocky shore with very high tides coming in constantly, not a sandy place to walk or play. It may not be what families expect from a beach resort in Pondicherry. Our stay in the “Mermaid Suite,” booked through MakeMyTrip for over ₹9,000, was a major letdown compared with the app listing. The water bottle had thick black grime or mold around its rim and cap. The bedsheets smelled and didn’t seem fresh. The AC barely worked, making for an uncomfortable night, and the shower wasn’t working properly. There was no security guard on site, which felt unsafe in this location. Breakfast was cold and very poor, not worth the extra booking cost. For these prices, the property didn’t meet basic 3-star standards, let alone what I’d expect from a suite. I wouldn’t bring my family here. The service and facilities didn’t justify the price.

Food was really good, and the service team were always around when we needed them. It’s a calm, cozy place and we enjoyed the stay a lot. Getting here by public transport could be a little difficult, but once there, the stay feels comfortable.

The staff were helpful, though they didn’t seem professional enough to handle guests. There’s no kitchen service for lunch or dinner, and the complimentary breakfast arrangements were the worst. I wouldn’t recommend it for a family, especially with kids, because the beach access has pieces of glass all over it and isn’t safe for them.
