City Hotel

I booked three nights for Rs. 400/- per nyt, knowing the room would be small because I only needed somewhere to freshen up and rest from 10-6 at night. Even at that price, the conditions were unacceptable. Openings near the roof let people on upper floors see into the washroom, so I had to turn off the light to use it. The gaps also made the room freezing in mid-December, and I couldn’t sleep. It seemed more like a storehouse or service boy room. The blanket was dusty and smelled bad, like it was from grandma’s time. After I asked for a change, the replacement was even worse. Luckily I had brought my own. If the condition is known, why list it online? At least the openings could have been closed and a decent blanket provided.

I asked for early check-in, and they agreed without mentioning a fee. Once I arrived, they wanted ₹150 extra because I was checking in 2.5 hours early. I’d also booked a room listed with a window, but the one I got had none. The room was clean, but the Wi-Fi only worked for 2-3 hours, then was unavailable until checkout, and there was no network in the room. It was supposed to be an AC room, but there was no AC, and the TV didn’t work. I also had to ask the staff to turn on the gyzer. The Wi-Fi, TV, AC, fan, and gyzer were all problems. A really bad experience.

The location was excellent for visiting nearby places, and the hotel was well maintained. My room was clean, and the bed was comfortable enough for a good rest. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, making check-in easy. I had a pleasant, comfortable stay at City Hotel, Prayagraj, and it felt like good value for money. Would definitely recommend.

I booked through ixigo, but the stay felt more like a survival challenge. The room stank, and a cockroach was already on the bed. The washroom exhaust fan never worked, despite repeated assurances that “The electrician will come by evening.” Evening came, but the electrician didn’t. The western commode nozzle sprayed everywhere except where it was supposed to, and there was no toilet paper. Even though I’d paid in full through ixigo, the receptionist insisted on a security deposit and acted as if asking for a bill was a request for state secrets. After I kept pushing, I got a scribbled piece of paper that looked more like a grocery list than an invoice. This place is a masterclass in how not to run a property. If you value hygiene, working facilities, or basic courtesy, stay far away, unless malfunctioning bathrooms, an alien-level reception, and bills in hieroglyphics sound appealing.
