Ganga view cottage

The place is in the middle of the market, with paid parking across the road, and it's a nice enough stay with a view of river Ganga. There's no kitchen, so food has to be ordered from outside. For older guests, I'd suggest asking for a room near reception, to avoid the stairs down to the other rooms.

The location was good, but for 3k bucks the service was pathetic. The receptionist kept trying to charge us extra for a mattress for our third person, even though we could all fit on the double bed. We lost our key while we were out, and they had no spare and wouldn't break the lock. They eventually called a key maker, who was supposed to charge 200 rs to come and 100 for the key. We had no choice but to agree, but the room was opened with another key before the key maker arrived. He still hadn't shown up by night or the next day, yet they wanted the full amount. They said this happens with many customers and they charge everyone the same, so why not make 2-3 spare keys? There was no water in the bathroom at night, and no electricity in the morning until we called and asked when it would come back. Then they turned on the generator so we could get ready before checkout. They kept calling us about checkout time even though the delay was because of them. I would never recommend staying here.

The online photos made the rooms look spacious and airy, but the one I got was cramped and uncomfortable. I felt congested during my stay, and the place didn't seem worth the money. If having room to relax matters to you, I'd look elsewhere.

The staff were good, and meals come from a nearby restaurant. The rooms are very small, with steep stairs leading down to them. The hotel does have a great view of the majestic Ganga river.
