Lily Guest House

The rooms were spacious and had hot water, which mattered because mornings and nights can be cold even in the second week of October. We stayed 3 nights, but the service caused a lot of frustration. The Wi-Fi was awful and gets switched off at night, so don’t rely on it if you use up your data navigating during the day. The guest house runs more like a PG when it comes to meals. Breakfast doesn’t start before 8:30 or 9, even for an early trip, and nearby shops stay closed until 10 AM, so you’ll need to find food on the way. Dinner also doesn’t start before 8:30, leaving you hungry if you get back early. Staff will take early orders for breakfast or dinner and keep you waiting for hours with promises, then cancel the delivery at the last minute. I asked for room service once, but the room hadn’t been attended to when I returned. The mattress and pillows were subpar, the mattress was spring fitted, and I had trouble sleeping and back pain. There was also an unpleasant smell in the corridor.

I came with my family for 3N and 4D, and these were the problems we ran into. The place is far inside Shillong, so you need a vehicle to get there. It has more than 3 plus floors but no lift, which made getting up and down difficult. Agoda showed a lift, but there wasn’t one. Restaurant service was very poor. Nothing came on time, and food took more than 2 plus hours to prepare. They didn’t provide water bottles in the room, and there was no electric kettle either. Groups or solo travellers might consider it, but I wouldn’t recommend it for families.

Rooms, food, and hospitality were all top notch here. The guest house exceeded my expectations in every way. Highly recommended.

We drove 8 hours to Shillong, which is 200+ kms from my state and city, after booking 2 rooms by phone on 12th Nov 2025, two days before the trip. It was peak time for Shillong's cherry blossom festival, and I didn’t trust online booking platforms when most hotels were full. I called twice, and both times they confirmed rooms were “available”. After we reached Meghalaya, a man from Lily’s Guest House called to say they had overbooked because of a technical glitch and couldn’t accommodate us. He said they’d find us better rooms 100 meters away. When we arrived at Lily’s, I called him and he came, but we had to drive almost 3 kms to the other guest house, not 100. Those rooms were cheaper, yet he charged us the full price and argued with the other owner that the difference was his commission fee. He was rude and disrespectful, and they made our time in Shillong really difficult. I’d suggest never booking this guest house, or you may face the same issues.
