Hotel Prestige

The room was fine and the service was just okay. If you have any problems with your legs, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

From Mall Road, getting to this hotel means going down at least 135 stairs, some iron-built and some old, large, broken steps. They're unsuitable for elderly people, really for anyone. The stairs were always covered in dog waste, and even with precautions your feet would end up in it. Sometimes it looked like human waste, though I don't know where it came from. After those stairs, you still might get a room three floors up or down. The rooms were very cheap and smelly. We were given a room looking onto a back drainage area instead of the one shown in our booking. There were lots of large crawling insects in the room and washroom. When I asked about the room photos, the manager and owner said they had changed them. People change rooms to upgrade, not downgrade. He first tried to give us a very cheap room, then gave us a slightly less cheap one. This felt like fraud and manipulation when allocating rooms.

Getting back up to Mall Road from the hotel was another challenge. After 135 stairs, there could still be another three floors up or down to your room, which was cheap and smelly. The approach from Mall Road has steep, broken old steps and iron stairs, and dog waste everywhere. Even taking care, your feet get into it. Sometimes it looked like human waste, though I don't know where it came from. This is unsuitable for elderly people, or really anyone. Our room was a downgrade from the one displayed in the booking. It looked onto a rear drainage area and had lots of large crawling insects in the room and washroom. When we asked, the manager and owner said the rooms shown on booking sites had changed. People change rooms to upgrade, not downgrade. He tried to give us a very cheap room, then gave us a slightly less cheap one. This is fraud and manipulation in room allocation. They gave us a quilt (RAJAI) whose cover was double-bed sized, but when we opened it at night, the quilt (RAJAI) inside was only single-bed sized. We only know how we got through that smelly night. We'd searched for and booked another hotel the same evening, but since this was an online booking and payment was done, we had to stay one night. We changed hotels early the next morning. BIG SCAM!!! It was the worst experience of my life. I've never seen such a smelly, fraudulent hotel. Even while writing this, I can still feel that smell in my nose and mouth. For god's sake, stay anywhere but hotel prestige in shimla. I never give reviews, but I want to protect others from this scam and warn them not to spoil their whole trip.

The staff were kind and always ready to help. The hotel is close to Mall Road, so it works if you need a budget place nearby. Our room was dirty and had bed bugs, though, so check it carefully before settling in. Use the elevator to get to the hotel.
