The tandoori is what kept bringing me back to Maria Paulo Café & Restaurant. Rihat (R-I-H-A-T) is the best tandoori chef I’ve experienced in India. I had the full tandoori chicken, and it was juicy, smoky, well seasoned, and delicious every time. I wondered after my first visit if I’d just been lucky, but I returned again and again, and the quality stayed consistent. I first came with vegetarian friends who suggested the place. They loved the rich, satisfying vegetarian meals, which were proper full meals rather than just side dishes. I returned with my vegetarian wife, and we both enjoyed the food and relaxed atmosphere. The cafe has outdoor seating near the street, with fresh air, and the staff are warm, friendly, and attentive. On my third visit, my wife and another friend came along for his pre-birthday celebration. Rihat’s tandoori was again outstanding, and the vegetarian dishes for my wife and the others were just as impressive. I’ve also tried the non-vegetarian momos, which were amazing. My children had a great time on our visits, too. The little chocolate dessert balls are simple but incredibly tasty, and cost just 50 rupees. Great chef, lovely vegetarian food, amazing staff, and a relaxed feel. This became a place I kept returning to because the quality speaks for itself.

I was looking forward to trying the bakery food, but I won’t be going back. There are much better options in Agonda. My salad sandwich arrived toasted, which hadn’t been mentioned. If I’d known, I’d have asked them not to toast it or chosen something else. The cake was okay, nothing special. I waited 40 minutes from sitting down to getting the sandwich while the men split tips from a box. One ran his hands through his hair and didn’t wash them before serving food. When I paid, they tried to overcharge me. I disputed it, and the server told him something about my drink, so he lowered the price, but it was still too much. All in all, nope.

This is a review of the restaurant. I stopped by to check out the bakery and ended up returning five or six times. Everything I tried, from cocktails to bakery items, was delicious. I definitely recommend it.

I went for breakfast and tried both the Spanish and English options, and really liked them. The watermelon juice was refreshing too. It’s close to agonda beach, with somewhere to park a bike. If you arrive by car, you’ll need to leave it on the street.

There’s a good selection of baked goods, along with plenty of tasty breakfast choices. The staff were friendly and served us with smiles. We enjoyed the croissants, though I wish they’d been a bit flakier 😊
