Mr Imran was helpful the whole time and even arranged a lovely early morning Shikara ride. Before we arrived, he communicated clearly and gave us precise directions to Ghat No. 14. From there, it’s a short 5-10 minute Shikara trip across the lake to the houseboat. We had a very good stay.

The rooms and boathouse were clean, comfortable, and beautiful, with lovely views and calm surroundings. Waking up on Dal Lake was something we won’t forget. Imran bhai made the stay especially memorable. He welcomed us warmly, helped us plan our days and arrange things, and was always happy to chat. Everything felt personal and caring. Staying at Zaindari Boathouse was one of the highlights of our Kashmir trip. It’s an experience in itself, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Srinagar.

We stayed four nights. It was clean and quiet, with a nice view, and Imran, the caretaker, was really nice. He’ll cook fresh food when you’re hungry 😇 The boats run from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm, so getting out for dinner is difficult. Definitely recommended. P.S. Buy a local SIM, you’ll need it.

Azim bhai arranged Rashid Bhai to cook BBQ right on the houseboat. The Chicken Tikka and Paneer Tikka were among the best I’ve had, especially with all the chutneys. We stayed at Houseboat Zaindari Palace from May 29th to May 31st 2026, and it was a lovely experience. The owner, Azim/Imran, treated us like family and made sure we had what we needed. He’s honest and knows a lot about Kashmir. The boat is in a quiet spot with a lovely mountain view. Breakfast, tea, and Kehwa were available whenever we called Azim bhai. Imran also arranged a lovely Shikara ride and could arrange reasonably priced boat trips to and from the Ghats.

In February, with snow still on the mountains, Imran kept us warm by lighting the bukari's in both the bedroom and living room. The bed was comfortable, and the boat has lovely timber Kashmiri furnishings and carpets throughout. He also cooked satisfying meals from local ingredients. We spent two wonderful days with Imran on Houseboat Zaindari Palace. It’s in a beautiful, quiet part of Dal Lake, away from the noisy, busy market areas. With mountains, birds, and everyday life on the lake around us, it was a peaceful place to unwind. A local boatman, Dean, took us on a wonderful two-hour Shikara ride around the lake. Thanks, Imran, for sharing some insight into life in Kashmir. We’d love to come back and can highly recommend the boat and his hospitality.
