Gakyi House Tabo

A friendly host who was ready to help, and the food was good. In winter they provide electric blankets, but the washrooms close because the water freezes, so be prepared to use the shared bathroom.

I was traveling solo through Spiti, and Tenzin bhaiya made the stay easy. He showed me around the nearby market and kindly gave me extra time to see Tabo Monastery and the Tabo Caves. It was a comfortable, pleasant place to stay.

The food was so good we all ate too much, then slept soundly on the heated sheets. The owner also took us star gazing and showed us a great spot to see the sky full of stars, including the Milky way. A lovely place to stay in Tabo, with an owner who makes the visit memorable.

The orchard was a surprise, and the apples were so sweet and fresh they looked like diamonds after washing. The rooms were very clean, the bathroom spotless, and the service was extremely good. They had hot blankets, kettles, geysers and fresh drinking water. Airtel users should be fine, but VI internet may be a problem, and the Wi-Fi may be off in the morning when there’s no electricity. Room lights still work on the generators. The hosts were so nice that it felt like home, not a hotel. My grandma even helped them cook chicken curry since it was off season, the chefs had a day off and weren’t quite sure how to make it. The manager’s mother came to the rescue, and I can still taste how good it was. It feels like missing the main point of the trip if you don’t stay here. Five star rooms, service and atmosphere.
