The Kanatal Orchids

We booked Kanatal Orchids for two days, based on the photos, with breakfast and dinner included, but left after just one day because the experience was awful. Dinner came late, and there was still no restroom water after we called three times to get it fixed. The place was short-staffed, and we were charged more despite leaving early. The food and service were terrible. The owner wouldn’t take feedback and seemed focused only on collecting cash. It’s a wonderful location being wasted. Not recommended. Better to sleep in your car. The wooden A-shaped rooms were fantastic, and everything was very clean. We had a lovely time here with my family. The location is very nice. Thanks.

The location is good, but the facilities and management were terrible. Bathroom water supply wasn’t proper, the staff service was extremely poor, and dinner didn’t arrive until around 10:00-10:30 PM. Breakfast was late too, which was really inconvenient. The owner seemed to care only about money. A very disappointing stay.

The view was the one thing I liked. I stayed two days and two nights in a Swiss-style tent, and from what I saw, the separate rooms on the property looked neat, proper, and better maintained. The tents seemed to have been left to decay. At booking, nobody told me about their condition, the off-season staffing shortage, or that maintenance had been neglected. The tent was in poor shape, with a ramshackle interior and a hastily cobbled-together metal frame. There was nowhere to hang clothes, no mirror or towel hanger in the bathing area, no hot water in the tent bathroom, and the toilet was unclean. The window flaps had no tie-down strings for closing them at night, lighting was inadequate, and electrical points were hanging unattached. The whole place looked neglected. Trash, broken furniture, and unrepaired fittings were lying around, along with long-abandoned construction material and unfinished construction. Grass and plants were overgrown and untrimmed, several bushes were crushed, and pathway stones were broken and scattered. The bonfire pit had trash in it. Utensils were left outside all over the place after guests used them, sometimes until the next day, because staff didn’t clear them away. There were practically no room or tent services. I saw only TWO employees, one of whom seemed to be the cook. Meal times weren’t fixed, nobody asked what or when we wanted to eat, and we had to be very specific in asking. Food arrived late and cold, and the staff argued about it and denied that it was cold. It was almost like staying in a junkyard. The scenery is the only saving grace. If you can overlook EVERYTHING else, you can enjoy the fresh air and sun. Highly unfortunate. Had I known it was in such poor condition, I wouldn’t have stayed.
