The one bright spot was the free morning yoga. It was really lovely. The rest of the stay was frustrating. The reception staff felt cold and unwelcoming, treated basic requests like a bother, and overcharged for taxis. Restaurant staff weren't friendly either, and on my first night I stood around for ages before anyone spoke to me. At dinner, I was told it was buffet only, even though another couple were ordering from the menu. I'm a woman in my 20s travelling solo, and I was furious when I realized I could have ordered too. I don't like buffets, and the menu dish I eventually got was cheaper and much better. I also ordered a pancake with maple syrup at breakfast, waited 40 minutes, and it arrived without the syrup. The pool wasn't somewhere I could relax: there was no drinks service, red ants on the loungers bit me, and monkeys kept messing with my things. The area has lots of old quarries with fresh standing water, so there were loads of mosquitoes even during the day. My room was dark and dingy, and opening the curtains meant people could see straight in.

The setting is green and away from noise and pollution, with birds and dogs to listen to. We didn't have much time to explore the grounds or make use of the facilities. The staff were punctual and knowledgeable, and breakfast was very tasty, though dinner was average. When we left at 6:00 a.m., they gave us a veg. s/w. It felt as if it might have been made the night before and kept in the fridge, which was the one unexpected part. Otherwise, I'd strongly recommend visiting.

The bathrooms had several problems: the curtain was faulty, the basin tap partly broken, the water pressure low, and the toilet seat half broken. We also struggled to lock and unlock the room doors, which added needless stress. Both rooms we booked were poorly lit and very dark. The staff came across as unprofessional and unwelcoming. Food quality was poor, and there were very few breakfast choices. Paying full price for the infrastructure and service we got ruined the holiday. This was unfortunately the final hotel on my trip, so it left a very negative impression. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The food was a big disappointment. It was average, portions were tiny, and prices were exorbitant, including ₹400 for a piece of fish smaller than a bread loaf. Breakfast had limited choices and restaurant service was painfully slow. The room category was also mixed up at check-in, which caused confusion. There was no proper welcome, and the staff didn't look hygienic or well-presented. Their uniforms were stained, and the bedsheets, towels and other room linens were visibly marked and unclean. Golf cart timings kept changing to suit the resort. Sometimes it ran only once at 8 AM and once at 9 AM, which was very inconvenient for elderly guests on the hilly grounds. The villa washrooms had sliding doors, visible glass and equipment meant for differently abled persons, which felt out of place. This may once have been a good resort, but it now seems neglected, with poor staffing, maintenance and attention to detail. I didn't enjoy my stay and would definitely have avoided it if I'd known about these issues.

Being surrounded by nature made me feel so relaxed, and the room was super comfortable with everything I needed. The location was fantastic, and the food was delicious. Everyone was incredibly helpful. Arshad in the restaurant deserves a special mention for being so attentive while covering lots of tables, and Sreejith at reception helped me a lot when I checked out. Thanks for making my stay at Amara so perfect!
