Hotel O Pop Tavern

The room itself was small but bright, and the white bed linen looked clean. The floor was dusty, though, the AC barely cooled, and the TV had no working cable connection. In the bathroom, the floor felt sticky and the geyser didn't work, so I had to run the fan at full speed instead. The corridor was dark and dirty, and both flights of stairs were dusty. The supposed reception was just a shabby table and chairs in the stairwell; a boy checked my reservation in a messy kitchen, called someone, photographed my ID on his phone, then handed over the keys. I booked because it was a cheap deal without checking the reviews, my mistake. I checked out within hours. This place is badly maintained and doesn't fit the OYO brand. Avoid it.

There was nobody at reception, just an old, shabby OYO sign. When I called the owner, he said it wasn't an OYO hotel and rudely refused to check me in, even though everything there suggested it was an OYO room. Think carefully before going near this hotel. What a disgrace to a service built on trust.

I waited outside from 9:30 to 10:15 at night because the caretaker was drunk and couldn't get me a room. A police patrol came by and asked why I was standing in the road. The caretaker also wanted to keep my original Aadhaar, and I had to make an issue of it. They don't seem to know how to run this business. The app photos look much older than the place; the room was unpleasant and had lots of cockroaches, and I killed three. That kind of environment didn't feel suitable for a normal stay. Trip and OYO teams are gambling with customers' lives by keeping this listing. I won't recommend the room or the apps, and these places should be removed.

OYO support eventually moved us to another hotel without charging extra, thankfully, but the whole thing was awful. We'd reserved and paid for two rooms in advance, yet the property had none available. They also demanded another 500 rupees per room, apparently assuming we were college kids. Then they refused a refund, saying we didn't have an RTPCR, and the owner was crass, telling me he'd been in the business longer and knew more than I did. I've never had another OYO charge me extra after full payment. The place was above More Supermarket in a very shady spot. I hope people don't get taken in by the bright photos on its OYO page.
