I've been staying at south gate hotel regularly for the past year, and the service has been good for me. The water situation has improved since last time, and the rooms have been much neater and cleaner over the past 2-3 months. I did have some trouble with cleanliness earlier, though, and the air conditioning still needs more improvement. Sometimes there's no night staff available. I hope things keep getting better.
The rooms and general condition of the hotel were average, but the staff's care made the stay memorable. When my son became ill from travel fatigue on our first day of a two-day stay, the main staff member and two others went out of their way to help us get him to the hospital. They also helped us get transport to Pathmanapa Swami Temple and made sure we got home safely. They treated us like family and were there whenever we needed help. I highly recommend the hotel for its compassionate staff and customer service.
The vehicle noise kept us up at night, and there was nowhere to park. The lift, corridor and room smelled bad, while the room had bed bugs and cockroaches, no hot water, and a fan whose speed control didn't work. The staff were lazy. A very bad stay and definitely not worth the money.
It's right in the heart of the city, so getting around is easy. The staff were friendly, and the customer support was good at all hours. A comfortable first choice, with hospitality that felt like home.
I spent the whole night unable to sleep because the defective room they gave me had no fan. When I asked for one, they told me to use the AC, and they still wouldn't give me an extra pillow even after I went to reception and asked ten times. The next morning the manager behaved very badly when I asked again about the fan. Absolutely the worst manager and staff. Never book this hotel.
