Hotel Vijay Park

For a pilgrimage to Arunachaleswarar Temple, Hotel Vijay Park is a handy place to stay, with rooms, a restaurant, and car parking for people driving themselves. The premises are clean and functional, and the tiled walls don’t look stained or discoloured. There’s a wide selection of TV channels, including sports and movies. The room rate feels a little high for the amenities, though the pilgrimage rush may explain it. Reception staff were cheerful, knowledgeable about local visits, and helpful to talk to. The restaurant’s free breakfast was decently cooked, but not having English or Hindi speakers there caused confusion and frustration. Staff often asked for tips, which was irritating when they hadn’t done anything special for us. Bathroom fittings are old and should be replaced, as should the wooden furniture with its stowaway that harbours rodents.

The bedsheet had several stains and hadn’t even been changed. The washrooms were unhygienic, so I’d say families should avoid this property. I’d give it a minus rating if I could.

The location is prime, but the service needs to improve. The toilets and rooms need better cleaning, and the old spring mattress could hurt your spine.

We ate meals at the restaurant and regretted it. The payasam was watered down, the curries had too much oil, and the fry wasn’t cooked properly. We were also charged for curd. I told the manager about the food, but he brushed off my concerns and was rude instead of polite. If he runs a restaurant, he should respect customers and listen when they raise an issue. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.
