Hotel Udai Kothi

This place is unique and spectacular in so many ways, and the owners seem keen to make improvements and hear feedback. Breakfast was good, with about five attentive staff. We especially liked Rajkumar, who went out of his way to help us. One morning a family of Langur monkeys joined us for breakfast, and the staff gave us fruit to interact with them. It was a completely unique experience. Just don’t expect Four Seasons, or you may be disappointed. Come with an open mind and you’ll be amazed.

Anwar made a great impression with his kindness and professionalism. He was welcoming, polite, and ready to help with whatever we needed, which made us feel comfortable throughout our stay. The rest of the staff also took good care of guests, and the hospitality was outstanding. Hotel Udai Kothi itself is beautiful, with striking architecture, elegant interiors, and a peaceful atmosphere that made it a special place to relax and enjoy Udaipur. I’d gladly recommend it.

The bathrooms were stinky and stained, and we had no hot water for all three days, despite repeated enquiries and being told it was being fixed. There was no lift to reach the floor either. The room had only a fan, AC, and mini fridge, despite the deluxe rooms being shown with standard facilities like an iron and safe. This was room 505, where we stayed from the 19th to the 22nd, and it was like a jail. In 30 years of travel, these were the worst hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. They could have used the money spent on bathroom fan fixtures to maintain the toilets instead. There was clearly not enough manpower: the same person was room boy, night duty, and cook at the morning omelet counter. Food was average, with not much variety over our three days. I’d definitely leave this hotel off my list in Udaipur.

The hotel is a beautiful, well-kept heritage haveli in a lively area, close to cafes, restaurants, city palace, and markets. There’s a lake-facing rooftop restaurant with amazing food, plus two full-size swimming pools that look really aesthetic. But the pools weren’t operational, service was slow, and the breakfast each morning was below basic.
