OYO 4116 Hotel Satyug

We had just arrived after a 10-hour train journey and were checked in using our UK driving licences. Then the hotel called asking for passport ID, which I had on my phone. I said I'd freshen up and come down shortly with it. A few minutes later, two "heavies" came to the room demanding Indian ID. I'm a UK citizen and didn't have that, so they told us to leave immediately. I tried to reason with them and said the hotel would get a bad review, but they didn't care. The manager also demanded Indian ID. Eventually he said he'd found and booked us another hotel that accepted NRIs, so we left. When we got there, it was fully booked, and we had to ride around Ujjain in an auto looking for somewhere to stay. Hotel Satyug showed no duty of care and did nothing to help resolve things or explain that they couldn't accept NRI guests. I'm a heart patient and my wife is diabetic, yet nobody even offered us tea or a drink. This isn't the India I know and love, and it doesn't reflect my other travels and hotel stays in the country. I'd give zero stars if that were possible.

Inside, the rooms are A1, the service is very good, and the staff are cooperative. There's also a restaurant with great food, plus a tasty breakfast featuring good-quality local dishes. The hotel is within walking distance of Mahakal temple. From the outside it might look like an ordinary hotel, and the rooms are very affordable.

It's a mid-range hotel and pretty clean for the price, with well-kept washrooms. If you're booking through Make my trip, the hotel will show as enroute stays. I'd recommend it for a short stay.

It's a good place, though it can seem expensive at times. The rooms are average, and the price should come down. Agents shouldn't be allowed.
