The food was a real highlight, especially the buttermilk, which was my favorite. It tasted fresh and delicious, with a homely feel rather than like food that had been stored or reheated. The rooms were clean and well maintained, so the stay was comfortable. One inconvenience was the drinking water. There’s no common water provided, so guests have to buy bottled water each time they need it. That’s impractical in summer, when you may need several bottles through the day. Free drinking water would improve the experience. Still, I had a pleasant stay at Hotel Vishwanath, largely thanks to the food.

The room was decent, but checkout left us with a very negative impression. They charged us for tea we hadn’t ordered, then said it had been served to our room at 3 PM. That can’t be right, since we only checked in at 4 PM. It felt dishonest and unprofessional. 👎👎 At first the stay seemed fine, and the staff were polite. They said they’d help us find different ghats and temples, which we were looking forward to, but they only guided us once, to Kedar ghat. None of the other promised assistance came through, which was disappointing.

We booked two three-bed rooms, each spacious enough for three or four people. The hotel is very good and well located near Assi Ghat. We had a very good stay and got darshan at all the temples.
