That little balcony view is what makes this place stand out: the property is only five steps from Varanasi Ghats, with a fantastic look over the Ganga river and everything happening along the Ghats. My wife and I stayed for a week during a longer trip in India. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and rooms, and for Varanasi I found this quite expensive for what you get. The room and bathroom were both very small and basic, though everything was clean and the bed was really comfortable. The owner spoke very good English and was polite and helpful, as was the rest of the staff. The location and view account for the extra cost, I think, but they didn’t make it a five-star stay for me. I was told hot water would be available around the clock, but I had to ask for it each time. WiFi was very poor and often went down. We got one roll of toilet paper for the whole week, and the towels weren’t changed, though I guess that may be the Indian standard. It was still a lovely stay and a great first experience in Varanasi, and I’d recommend it to a friend. Just a few small things could be improved.

The view of Maa Ganga from our balcony and the terrace was breathtaking, and the hotel sits right by Mansarovar Ghat. We spent five nights here. The rooms were decent for the price, and the owner and all the staff were kind and helpful. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a budget stay beside the ghats.

Assi ghat and vishwanath temple are both about a 1.5 km walk along the ghat, so the location is excellent. The host is very good, and there’s a big open terrace where you can practice yoga or meditation.

The management deserves a special mention, they were always available and went out of their way to help us. We spent four days at Leela Guest House during our Varanasi trip and had a great experience. The rooms were well maintained and the stay was very comfortable. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere safe and comfortable near the ghats.

Leela has a relaxed, authentic feel, with good people, a great view, and a really comfortable place to rest after a long day in the old city. There are no fancy extras, just the energy of the Ghats right nearby. Mansarover Ghat is right there, which made my morning walks easy. I’d choose it again on my next visit.
