The manager and staff were especially thoughtful, putting together breakfast for me at 4.30am before my early departure. It had a veg sandwich, boiled eggs, and nearly a litre of fruit juice. They also brought welcome drinks for me and my visiting friend, even serving her juice in the car outside. The manager was polite, the staff friendly, and the sitting area outside the rooms was nice. There was secure parking for 1-2 cars inside, with room for many more outside. It's only a 2 minute walk to the beach, in a quiet, secluded setting that would suit couples. The mud-built rooms are beautifully decorated and romantic, though I was traveling alone. I got a great price, and the place exceeded my expectations. I'd book it again if I return to Varkala and recommend it to other tourists. I couldn't get the WiFi to connect on my laptop or either of my two phones, it stayed stuck on "obtaining IP address." The remote wouldn't let me adjust the temperature, only turn it on or off, and it was too late at night to ask for help. The outdoor area was very dark, so I had to use my phone flashlight in the common area. The path to the beach is dark and deserted too. It was rainy on the night I was there, and walking back felt scary, though that's not the hotel's fault.
