Hill Palace Residency

There aren’t many hotels to choose from in Virajpett, so options are limited. Within that selection, this hotel has one of the best locations. The rooms could be updated a bit to match the price. I paid 1800+ including taxes for a weekend night, and didn’t feel it was worth that much. There’s no AC. The weather is good enough that you may not need one, but I still think it’s a basic room requirement.

I only ate lunch here. Don’t order the mandi biryani or regular biryani. The latter was basically ghee rice with tomato paste and tasted so bad that we sent two plates back to the waiter. We switched to chicken rice, which was much better, and the prices were okay.

Good service and plenty of parking, with enough room for a large group. The rice dishes are especially good. The table design is clever too, it doesn’t get in the way when you sit down or move your chair out. The washrooms are good as well.

The location is the main thing going for this place, so it might work if you’re here on business. The rooms aren’t great: there’s no AC, the bedsheet wasn’t clean, and when we asked for hot water, staff said it wasn’t available then. They didn’t recognize our booking through booking dot com and left us waiting, and they asked us to move the car several times. This was nowhere near the claimed 3 star standard. They also charged 300 Rs more than the Booking dot com price. As someone else said, the ratings seem to be mostly for the restaurant, not the rooms.
