City Palace Mumbai

The rooftop balcony is a hidden gem, with a 360 degree view. I stayed three nights and would rate it as a budget hotel. The friendly staff were helpful, and the front desk spoke English well. I had a clean single room, similar to a university student room, with a shared bathroom. If you're over 5 foot 10 inches, you'll have to bend and may bang your head. The shared bathroom was clean. Western visitors should bring their own toilet paper. The toilet and shower are in one wet room, though bathing with the stool, bucket, and scoop was easier. There was no queue to get a room. If you have accessibility needs, tell the hotel before booking, since upper floors are reached by a spiral staircase.

The rooms were always clean and well maintained, and there are plenty of eateries just below the premises. It's in a prime, very convenient spot, within walking distance of several places in South Mumbai.

The shared bathroom was spotless, and the place is a good cheap option in Mumbai. It's close to the station, too. My single room cost €15 and was on one of the top two floors, with a lift, but it was tiny and the ceiling was low, especially if you're 1'80m. The larger rooms cost more, but they're better.

The location is good, but I wouldn't come back. The rooms are tiny, and above the 6th floor the ceilings are so low you can't stand straight. It felt expensive for what you get, and there's noise from the street, AC, and staff. The AC started beeping uncontrollably and woke me at 2 am. In a 6qm room at 30+ degrees, turning it off means no airflow, but leaving it on risks another wake-up if you're a light sleeper.
