Dilshad Palace Hotel

The hotel is pleasant, with nice rooms and staff. On earlier visits I especially liked the more distinctive, luxurious rooms on the fourth floor. The downside is the high price. For that same money, I could get a very nice hotel in Istanbul in a wonderful location.

We were on holiday and needed a good hotel, so I called and was told it was five star with VIP rooms. I believed them. The room seemed OK at first, but then I spotted a long hair on the bed and my wife found a bunch of hair on the floor. It was late, and with young children with us, changing rooms wasn't practical. Room service told me to raise it with reception in the morning before checkout. The receptionist said the manager wasn't there because it was Friday. He made a few calls but got no answer, then suggested I speak to the owner in his office. The owner was rude and unhelpful. After we talked, he told me to go do whatever I could do. The service was poor, and I would never recommend this hotel.

The elevator is extremely slow, and the electricity kept going off. The mini fridge was very poor, and there wasn't much choice in the food. The furniture is old and the bed uncomfortable. They were doing renovation work while we were staying in the rooms, so we could hear the drilling and everything.

I only stayed one night. The room and sheets were clean, and the staff and reception were good compared with other hotels I've visited in Kurdistan. The restaurant was clean too. Breakfast, though, was poor and had too few choices. Hot drinks were limited to black tea or instant coffee, with just one kind of juice, although the fruit selection was good. In general, I'd put it alongside two-star hotels I've stayed in in other countries.
