Akureyri City Apartments

We had a wonderful stay at G19. The apartment was comfortable and nicely renovated, with clean, new bedding and towels, a well-stocked kitchen, and a washer and dryer. Free parking was available, and it was a short walk to the town centre and waterfront. There was a small mix-up during check-in, but the host responded quickly, admitted the mistake, and kindly refunded us for the inconvenience. That showed a level of professionalism and willingness to put things right that we've not seen from other operators. We'd happily recommend G19.

The three-bedroom apartment on the top, second floor was beautifully furnished and very well equipped. We stayed two nights, and getting in and checking out was easy. All the information we needed arrived in good time.

We felt duped. The place wasn't as advertised: maybe one room looks like the photos, but ours definitely didn't. It was much smaller, with low, cramped ceilings. We booked it specifically to do laundry, but there was no dryer, despite the listing, and clothes wouldn't dry on a line overnight in the damp air. The walls were paper-thin, so we heard every footstep and the street. The kitchen windows were cracked, garbage was piled outside the door, and the shower curtain smelled. The owner didn't reply at all for days before we arrived. The fine print says they'll charge 200 euro if any dishes are left unwashed. There were no shower supplies, though maybe that's on us, so I won't criticize them for that. The other gorgeous places we stayed did have good bath supplies, though. It was clean enough, and there was a bed, a fridge, some decent kitchen supplies, and free parking. This is fine if you can't find a hostel. Find somewhere else.

Our family of five had a fantastic stay in apartment 104, a three-bedroom place. The apartment was cute and cozy, with nice furniture, and had a washer and dryer plus everything we needed in the kitchen, from knives and plates to a coffee machine. I prefer contactless check-in, and it went smoothly, with all the information clearly communicated. There's free parking right outside the entrance, which was especially handy since the other family travelling with us had to pay for street parking. Street parking wasn't hard to find, just less convenient. After seeing so many negative reviews, I felt I had to share our experience. Maybe those reviews are about the smaller apartments in the building, since I can't say anything negative about our stay. I'd definitely return.
