Hlíd Hostel

The hostel is well located, but the price isn’t justified. The cabins aren’t insulated or watertight, and my coat got stained as a result, as shown in the photo. There are heaters, but the rooms don’t warm up properly, so you’re stuck wearing hiking clothes inside to stay warm. The toilets are kept clean, though they’re a two minute walk away. The shared kitchen is basically a tent with four stoves and doesn’t keep out the cold. If you’re staying in the region, the hostel next door would be a better choice.

No sleep here. The walls are paper thin, the floors are hollow, and every person walking sounds like a T-Rex. Rooms surround the common area, it’s absurdly loud, and quiet hours aren’t enforced at all. If you care about your sanity, stay somewhere else. The extra price will be worth it. Lesson learned. Charging another 3500 ISK for sheets feels illegal. It’s a disgusting, shameful business practice. They cram as many people as they can into this cardboard hostel. I’ve stayed in places around the world that were five times as nice for a third of the price. Unbelievable.

This is kind of the only budget place in the area, so I might stay again, but mostly because there aren’t other hostels around. The room was fine and the kitchen was a decent size, though guests took it over for hours. The showers were tiny and smelled. We booked two beds but were put in separate rooms?

Worked well for an overnight stay in Myvtan. The room was comfortable and decently spacious for four, with good bunk beds, though the curtains weren’t blackout. The kitchen had two of each thing, including ovens, a fridge, sinks, and a stove, plus enough space for several groups to cook and prep meals at once. There were lots of tables and seats, and no lines for the bathroom or shower.
