Hlid Cottages

We were in a campervan rather than a cottage, but had everything we needed. It cost about 5000 ISK for two people. We visited in October, when there were only about four other vans and no midges, the bugs other people had encountered. The amenities were good: showers, toilets, and a cooking tent. The toilets were heated up so much they were really warm. Showers are communal and have no curtains.

Great views and close to everything, with a cozy cabin to come back to. The loft’s a bit cramped but would work well for kids. In mid Aug the weather was perfectly cool and there were hardly any bugs. Maybe people who complained about bugs came at the wrong time of year, so that’s on them.

The cottages are nicely laid out, and there’s a shared kitchen where guests can cook and clean up after themselves. Bathrooms and showers were clean. The heaters were set really hot, so we opened our window for some fresh air.

We loved our one night at His Cottages. The cabin was cute and cozy, the place was quiet and beautiful, and the balcony view was amazing. We picked up delicious pizza from a nearby place. Unfortunately, there were water problems that day and the city was trying to fix them. We’d hoped to shower before leaving in the morning, but there was no hot water.
